Gemmotherapy

The Story of Pol Henry

Doctor Pol Henry (1918-1988) put forward the hypothesis that the bud contains all the informative energy needed for a tree's development. Based on a rigorous scientific approach and his own observations, he developed a new approach based on studying the effects of bud extracts. He called it phytembryotherapy.

His hypothesis is based on the fact that plant embryonic tissues have powerful and subtle biochemical and energetic properties. Each bud carries within it the full genetic information of the plant. This sets it apart from the plants used in herbal medicine (phytotherapy), which uses so-called "mature" parts of the plant (such as leaves, stems or flowers).

The bud concentrates properties of the plant such as trace elements, vitamins, enzymes, phytohormones, as well as mineral sap.

In practice

Gemmotherapy comes from the Latin term "gemmae", meaning "bud". It is a branch of herbal medicine that works with the embryonic part of the plant.

In herbal medicine, the mature parts of the plant are used, whereas in gemmotherapy, the buds, young shoots or rootlets are used.

Dr. Pol Henry's traditional method involves macerating plant embryonic tissues in 3 solvents: alcohol, water and vegetable glycerin. This produces a concentrated glycerin macerate.

Taken orally, these food supplements work by rebalancing the body's terrain.

Avicenna (Ibn Sina), the medieval Persian philosopher, physician and scientist, said: "The whole is greater than the sum of its parts".

This principle applies to the bud, which contains the totum of the plant, giving it a more comprehensive action.
