The mother macerate of lingonberry buds comes from gemmotherapy, an approach to herbal medicine that uses the embryonic tissues of plants.

Gemmotherapy: an approach from tradition

Gemmotherapy is a branch of herbal medicine which uses the embryonic tissues of plants: buds, young shoots and rootlets.

Developed in the 1950s by Dr Pol Henry, a Belgian doctor, this method is based on the use of fresh buds, harvested in spring at a key moment in their growth.

The buds are then macerated in a mixture of water, alcohol and vegetable glycerin, in order to obtain a mother macerate using a traditional process.

Lingonberry: a plant from preserved natural environments

Lingonberry (Vaccinium vitis-idaea) is a small evergreen shrub belonging to the Ericaceae family.

It grows spontaneously in acidic soils, often at altitude or in lightly disturbed forest environments.

The mother macerate is obtained by slow maceration in a mixture of water, alcohol and vegetable glycerin.
