Malagasy cooperative: authentic production
Our ylang-ylang essential oil comes from Madagascar, where it is produced by a cooperative engaged in traditional organic aromatherapy. The ylang-ylang production process is truly authentic, involving open-fire distillation which gives the oil unique and distinctive aromas. The ylang-ylang harvest takes place throughout the year, reaching its peak in April and May after the rainy season. In addition, the cooperative is fully committed to preserving the environment by using improved stoves and sustainably managing its land. It does not use any pesticides in its agricultural practices. In addition, the cooperative plays an essential role in supporting the local community by participating in educational projects and promoting the financial autonomy of communities through fair remuneration for the work of its members.
Ylang-ylang, a tropical tree native to the islands of the Indian Ocean, can grow up to 20 meters in height. It grows in tropical and subtropical climates. It requires warm temperatures and high humidity, as well as abundant sunshine.
The flowers are generally harvested early in the morning, when their fragrance is at its peak. The flowers are picked by hand and immediately distilled to extract the essential oil.
In Madagascar, ylang-ylang is often linked to coronation rituals. The flowers are woven into necklaces and crowns, worn by kings and queens during official ceremonies, testifying to the cultural and symbolic importance of the plant in the region.
